Johnson Lee :: Free Form 24 "A Weekend With Gus"

March 18th, 2011 No comments

It's about that time for OTBP to drop the next Free Form jewel.  'A Weekend With Gus' has to mean that you are in store for non-stop audible bliss.  Gus is definitely a DC legend and to have a mix involving Gus guarantees a real experience.  (I know that doesn't help many of you out there that don't know the legend of Gus but you'll have to trust me on this one.)  I just got done listening to this mix for the first time in about 5 years.  Have to say that I was blown away.  I really wish I had the track titles so I could give my take on the journey blow by blow...but alas it's a Free Form mix and that means the playlist is all in the mind of the listener.  What I can tell you is that there's some serious sampling, djing, and a vibe that brings you through a cloud of jazz, lounge, experimental, and who knows what I should call it.  Download it now.

Johnson Lee :: Free Form 14

March 9th, 2011 No comments

It's time for another Free Form jewel.  Edition 14 brings Johnson's infamous house sound back to the fray but intermixed with jazz, drum and bass, lounge, and funky breaks, too.  While it's only 48 minutes long, he gives you a glimpse into one of his authentic 4 hour live sets.  It's another keeper indeed.

Blast Kid :: Snap Your Fingers

December 29th, 2010 No comments

Introduction by Blast Kid:

"If you feel like patting your feet, pat your feet. If you feel like clapping your hands, clap your hands. And if you feel like taking off your shoes, take off your shoes. We are here to have a ball."

No words could've better set the mood for this mix than Art Blakey's introduction from the legendary Jazz Messengers concert in jazz club Birdland in the mid fifties. Blast Kid selected and mixed some of his favorite hard bop, latin jazz, bossa nova and nujazz tunes to introduce you to the sound of Snap Your Fingers, LDBK Radio's jazz show (formerly known as Pulsations - http://ldbk.eu/listen). Snap Your Fingers is also the name of a jazz dj duo consisting of The Groove Gardener and Blast Kid The Jazz Kid.

Johnson Lee :: Free Form 11 "For Jo"

December 11th, 2010 No comments

Johnson dedicated this edition of the Free Form series to our friend Jo, who was taken from us at a very young age.  It is an excellent collection of lounge, jazz, downtempo, hip-hop, and some sprinkled in comedy.  I definitely give it the seal of approval.

Johnson Lee :: Free Form 7

After an upbeat part 6, Johnson chills it out in part 7.  This mix ranges from very chill lounge, jazz, latin, funk, and more.  I find myself listening to this mix on a nice long car ride or when I'm chillin' at my house. I think a nice glass of wine and warm summer breeze compliment it very well.

Johnson Lee :: Free Form 5

October 15th, 2010 No comments

Part five of the Free Form series by Johnson Lee brings us this funky jazzy lounge mix.  The first few of the Free Form series were mainly house oriented but Johnson goes digging deep into his never ending vault of records on this one.  The first song I believe is a lounge remix of an old rap song.  When he first showed me the album it was from and I was pretty blown away on a what a cool job they did taking some gangster style rap songs and turning them into cool downtempo jazzy tracks.  This is definitely a cover to cover mix.  I suggest you pour yourself a nice drink, settle down in a cozy spot, sit back, relax, and enjoy.  He's going to take you for a ride.
