DJ Happy 1994 Mix (Side A)

Hands down, this has to be one of the most influential mixtapes I ever had.  It's by a "DJ Happy", who I never heard of at the time and never heard of again.  However, the songs and the mixing on this recording are impeccable.  There are many classics and I spent hours digging in the crates to amass the vast majority of these songs.  If you ever wanted to take a peek into what inspired me as a young DJ, this is it.

OTBP Vol. 011 "Break Into The Past"

March 9th, 2011 No comments

This is a very special edition of OTBP.  It is not for the faint of heart nor those looking for some smooth house grooves or laid back lounge music.  This episode I focus on that which we call "Breaks, Breakbeat, Funky Breaks, etc."  The majority of these tracks were released between 1989-1995.  These were the tunes driving the underground rave scene across the United States and Britain.  You would hear DJs such as DJ Dan, Scott Henry, John Debo, DJ Icee, & DJ Spun rocking these tunes.  In roughly an hour and half, I've run through 30+ of the tracks that were prevalent during this era.  Because of this, I don't really think I can highlight the big tracks since all of these were pretty much hits in the scene.  So again, if you are ready to take a trip in the "Way Back Machine", download, sit back relax, press play, and enjoy.  If breakbeat ain't your thing, then it's best that you wait for the next edition of OTBP...but why not take a chance and expand your horizons??!!

Johnson Lee :: Bangin’ (Side B)

November 7th, 2010 No comments

Side B of this mix starts off with some lounge, it progresses into a DnB vibe, and then moves back to house.  After listening to this again, this side sounds like the precursor to the Free Form series he started only a year later.

Johnson Lee :: Bangin’ (Side A)

November 7th, 2010 No comments

As I've been digging through my old cassettes, I've been running into some great mixes of late.  This mix I'm brining you is the very first mix I ever received of Johnson Lee.  He recorded this back in 1999.  Let me tell you, true to the title it is definitely BANGIN!  I don't have a playlist but I can attest that this mix just doesn't stop coming at you.  When I first got it from Johnson, I used to have it on heavy rotation in my car.  In fact many times when LBS and I were headed downtown, this would be the mix to get us ready for the night.

Saeed & Palash :: Chamber Of Sound (Side B)

November 6th, 2010 No comments

Here's side B of the Chamber Of Sound mix I dusted off from my old collection of tapes.  Like I was saying on A side of this mix, I don't know who mixed each side.  This side had more tracks that weren't as mainstream in the underground circuit.  The mixing is not as smooth/tight but it's still a very good listen especially for those looking to take a trip in the 'Way Back Machine'.

I didn't have as much success putting together the playlist.  If anyone can assist, I'd be greatly appreciative.
